The Butterfly Collection

A butterfly, an arched card, and as little else as we could get away with.

The Butterfly Collection began as a commission and became a collection because so many couples asked for it afterwards. The illustration is a single butterfly, foiled so it shifts between pale blue and silver depending on how the card is held. Everything else on the sheet is quiet: the names, the date, the venue, and a lot of empty paper.

The main invitation has an arched top. It is a small change that does more than it sounds like it should, because the curve stops the card reading as a rectangle of text and gives the butterfly somewhere to sit.

Every piece in the suite is printed on our 1980s hand-operated foiling press, one sheet at a time. The impression left by the plate is part of the design: run a finger across the lettering and you can feel where the foil has been pushed into the cotton.

Semi-bespoke means the layout, the illustration and the finish are already settled, and the wording, the paper colour and the foil colour are yours. Most couples change nothing but the words. Some ask us to move the butterfly, or to switch the blue for gold, and that is fine too.

You do not have to take every piece. Plenty of couples take the invitation and an RSVP card and put the rest on a wedding website.

What it costs
