What a multi-ceremony suite has to do
A wedding that runs over several days is not one invitation with extra pages. It is a set of pieces that have to work together and separately at the same time: a main invitation that carries the weight, individual cards for the ceremonies guests are actually attending, and enough consistency that nobody has to work out which envelope belongs to which day.
That is a design problem before it is a printing one. We draw the whole set at once, so the type, the paper and the finish carry across and only the details change. Guests should be able to lay every card on a table and see immediately that they belong to the same wedding.
Setting a second script
If your invitation carries Gujarati, Gurmukhi, Hindi or Urdu alongside English, talk to us early and send the exact wording as text rather than as a picture.
We will be straight with you about this: we do not read these languages. That means we can set them, but we cannot proof them, and a suite goes to print only once someone in your family has checked the second script and told us it is right. We would rather build that step into the timeline than discover a problem after a hundred cards have been pressed.
Finishes
Gold and copper foil on ivory or deep colours is the most requested combination, and it is what our press does best. Blind debossing works particularly well behind foiled lettering on a heavy stock, so a pattern is felt rather than seen.
- Hot foil. Hot foil printing presses a metallic foil into paper using a heated metal plate and real pressure.
- Letterpress. Letterpress is printing by pressing an inked plate into paper hard enough to leave a physical impression.
- Embossing and debossing. Blind embossing raises an area of paper; debossing presses it down.
Common questions
Can one suite cover several ceremonies?
That is usually the point of it. A multi-day wedding often needs a main invitation plus separate cards for the mehndi, the sangeet, the ceremony itself and the reception, and the whole thing has to read as one set rather than five leaflets in an envelope. We design them together, so the type, the paper and the finish carry across, and only the details change from card to card. It also keeps the printing efficient, because several pieces can share a paper stock and sometimes a plate.
Can you set a second script?
Please ask us before you commit, and send the exact text as a document rather than an image. Setting Gujarati, Gurmukhi, Hindi or Urdu alongside English needs the right typeface, correct rendering of conjuncts and vowel marks, and a proofreader who reads the language, which is not us. What we will not do is set a script we cannot proof properly and hope it is right. Getting a family name wrong on a wedding invitation is not a mistake anyone forgets.
How far in advance should we order?
Earlier than for a single-day wedding. Multi-ceremony suites have more pieces, more wording to agree across more families, and usually a longer guest list, so both the design stage and the print run take longer. We suggest starting five to six months before you want invitations posted. Guest lists for large weddings also tend to move right up to the last moment, so it is worth ordering a generous number of spares.
Do you work with larger guest lists?
Yes, and quantity generally works in your favour. The cost of cutting a plate is the same whether we print eighty invitations or three hundred, so the per-card price falls as the run grows. What does change is the printing time, because every sheet is still fed into the press by hand. Tell us your rough numbers early and we will be straight with you about the lead time that quantity needs.
